Lantern Decoration

OhhhMmmmGeee! I can't believe it's almost been 2 months since I've last blogged?! What the___??  In my last post I apologized for neglecting the blog and look what happened? I've been more absent than ever! Ugh!! I plan to do a summer post, even though it's already autumn! Eeek!!

I made this lantern at the end of the summer as part of a little project.  Just wanted to share.  Have you ever gone to craft or home decor stores and have seen paper/plastic outdoor lanterns on sale for super cheap, and thought to your self that it's so cute, but what are you gonna do with it?? Well I've got some ideas for you!  I myself, LOVE lanterns!! So, of course I am always buying lanterns whenever I see a good deal.  I can't resist!
These particular lanterns are paper and were very inexpensive.  I also got the cherry blossom stalks for very little money too.

All I did was strategically glue the flowers in a swooping design from top to bottom.  It was very easy and very quick!  You can use this for party decorations or even to decorate a room.  If you want to personalize it, you can add a ribbon or tassel to the bottom of the ribbon, then add a name or picture the the ribbon.  You can add the light bulb to the inside or just use it as is.  String it up, and enjoy!!

Cheers!♥

I could literally go on for days with this topic!! I love quotes, I find them so inspirational.  I admit that I go through a good part of my day reading quotes.  These are just to name a few that I love, and some are things that I'm currently feeling.  It's weird because sometimes you might not like a quote, but you can relate to it or it moves you in some way.

Things to do with quotes.
1.) Turn them into art.  This is such a cool idea.  You could put a different one in each room of your house.  You could write it out or paint it or if you have a cutting machine you could cut the letters out, another cool idea is to cut the words out from a magazine.  After you compose your words out on paper whatever you want to display it on, you can frame it and hang it.  Or if you're feel like it, paint it right on to your walls.

2.) Gift it.  Believe me, this is a good one to give to someone for graduation or someone that's moving or going through a hardship or a quote freak like me! :)  I love to give gifts with meaning or gifts that I know the receiver really wants or could use.  You could do the same thing like above and give it away.  Another idea is to make an entire book of your fav quotes and add little pictures or notes to things that relate to your and the special person.  I've done this one a lot, and it's always a hit!!!

3.) Motivation.  Write down a quote that you love or one that has something to do with a goal or emotion that you're feeling, and keep it in your wallet or some place that you go to a lot.  Let it remind you of what you're trying to achieve or just let it be there to brighten your day.

I hope you like my list!! It's amazing how words can impact us in both positive and negative ways.  Do you have a fav quote?  Want to share it with me?

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Parting shot.

Wishing for an endless summer!

Mickey Card Box

Bare with me, this is gonna be a long post!  I recently made a card box for a Mickey Mouse theme birthday party!  I had so many ideas running through my head.  I decided to make the box look like the invitation that my friend made.

I thought I had it all figured it out in my head.  I wanted to make a round box and tissue paper it like old school style.  Where you wrap the tissue at the end of your pencil and glue it to look like it's "fluffy" looking.  I got everything ready for this "technique", and to sum it all up, it was a huge fail!  I had to do it a different way, but all in all I think that it came out pretty good!!

Here's a little recap/how to on how I made the box!

I found this cardboard round hat box at Ross!  This is exactly what I was looking for!  The things you find at Ross!  Sometimes there are some hidden gems there!

This first thing that I did, was take out the cord that's in the box.  Don't throw that away, you can use it for all different things.  I think that I might use it for handles on a gift bag or maybe add it to decorate a card.

After removing the cord, I have these holes, but it's okay because I am going to cover it and no one is really going to see this part.

I tried to peel off as much of the glossy paper on the box as possible, but it wasn't easy.
Next I marked the area that I need to cut for the slot where the envelopes will go in.  As you can see, I don't measure.  I just drew it out and went for it.

Now it's time to cut that sucker open!  I used an exacto blade, I think it would be faster to use a bigger blade, but I couldn't find mine and I wasn't cutting that large of an area.  I cut a slot for the envelope part, and 2 smaller slots on each side of the box for the ears.

Voila!
We have slots.

Next, I marked where I want the colors to go.  Since I wanted it to look like the invite, I drew a line to mark the division between the 2 colors.

I mixed glue and water in a sour cream container that I saved.  It's good to save these little containers, especially the ones with covers.  You never know when you need to save something or use it for painting or in the case gluing.  Again I didn't measure anything out, I just added glue and thinned it out with water.  It's all trial and error.  It's not that serious, and you can always thicken it if necessary.

I had cut the tissue paper for plan A, but since we're going with plan B it's not necessary to cut the tissue.  For this project, tissue is very forgiving so ripping is actually better.

Now it's time to apply the tissue to the box.  I lightly coated the box with your glue solution, and start placing the tissue in the areas that I marked for each color.  To make sure that it's coated well, I applied another coat after I placed the tissue down.  As you can see, I used a brush for this part, I suggest you use a sponge brush if you have it.  I've been rearranging so a lot of things are misplaced.  I could only find a brush.  The difficult part about using a brush, is that the bristles tend to fall off and into you project.  I had to keep plucking bristles off of the box.  A little time consuming.

I was getting a little coat happy!  I had a lot of layers, just to work out all the kinks and try to get it as smooth as possible.

After I finished applying all the tissue to the box, I let it sit for about 10 minutes.  In the meantime, I got a oval shaped punch and punched out 2 ovals, that I used for the buttons on Mickey's pants.  I used the technique as the tissue, applying it with the glue mixture.

While I let the box dry some more, I moved on to making the ears.  I originally started with craft foam, but unfortunately I had to scrap that idea because I cut it too small and the foam that I had was a little too thick.  In a bind, I decided to go with balloon ears.  I cut out 2 balloons with my cricut for the ears.  I cut it out of a thin cardboard box that I had received some mail in.

As with the rest of the box, I applied the same glue mixture and used the black tissue to make the ears.  The bottom of the balloon, is the part that I slid in the slots that I made for the ears.  I got a wooden chopstick and cut it in half and taped it to the back of the ears to give it a little more support so it can stand upright.

I know, this is a horrible picture...but this is the final product!  This type of box, can be made on any scale and with any type of box.  If you want to make it shiny, you can coat it with modge podge or even a clear coat type of varnish.

I hope you enjoyed this little recap!

Feedly more

I know that I've been a slacking a lot lately.  I am super sorry!! This is totally late, but you know how it goes...better late, than never!  As many of you know, on July 1 google reader ended! :(  If you're like me, and really depended on reader then you were sadden by the stress of having to figure out what's next.  I was so bummed out the months leading up to July, trying to figure out a replacement for reader.  I do use blog lovin, but I wanted to find something with a little more ease.  I was a little slack on the days before reader retiring.  For some reason, I thought there was another week or so? After the 1st, I sat down at the computer and told myself that I need to take care of this now and find a replacement for reader.  That's where, I stumbled upon feedly!! It was so simple to sync everything from reader to feedly!!  I was so pleased.  Now, I'm so behind on my reading.  I've been playing catch up all month.  It is my goal to try to get up to date by this week.  I downloaded the feedly app to my phone, that really helps!  I totally recommend it!!  Take it for a test drive. and see how you like it!!
Thanks for everything google reader, you've been good to me.  Feedly has got me now!

ID4 fun!

 and the
Hope everyone had a fun and safe Independence day!!  It was a scorcher here!!  A miserable heat, that just filled the entire house with thick air! It was much cooler outside under the tent! The kids had fun cooling off with 5 buckets of water balloons!!

I wanted to share a delish slushie treat that I made.  I made it the first time for Super Bowl, and it was such a hit!  It's called RED ROOSTER, it's a recipe from Emeril "bam" Lagasse!  I twisted it up a little, and made it a little different.  From my pictures you can tell that I put too much orange juice, and it turned to a ORANGE ROOSTER! It still tasted very good!!

To make this, you will need cranberry juice, orange juice, 7-up and vodka if you're making it an adult treat!  Omit the vodka for virgin drinks.

You will first need to get a large plastic container to put everything in.
When it comes to making drinks for this type of party, I don't measure anything out.  Everything is to taste, and it's a lot easier if you're serving a large amount of people.  Also a side note, because this is meant to be slushie, make sure that you make this way ahead of time, preferably the night before to allow enough time to freeze.  If you're adding the alcohol, remember that alcohol doesn't freeze entirely, but allow yourself enough time to let the liquid set.

pour the cranberry juice into the container

Next is to add in the orange juice

This next part is optional, this is my own twist just to give it a little more kick.
I added a can of 7-up, like I said it's all to taste and it's up to you if you want to add 7-up in to your mix.

Now if you're making yours for adults only, proceed on with the vodka.  If you're making virgin drinks, now that it's all mixed put it in the freezer.

Now it's time to let the freezer do the work.

I told you that I went to heavy on the O.J.!!

It's ready to serve!!  Get a spoon and start scooping!!
Cheers!

I took a morning drive to check out what was going on around the area, and stumbled on some houses displaying their patriotism!!  There were so many others that I passed but wasn't fast enough to get pics of.

It's days like this, that we really appreciate all that we have!!

pride & true

Of course I couldn't leave without sharing this little gem!

Here's a little shout out to all my fellow hello kitty lovers!  I promise, this is hello kitty!!  I wasn't able to catch it earlier, and it's sideways...but it's her!!

Closing out with the BOSS!
