Hi! Just checking in!! I wanted to make a note, that my last couple posts have been from my phone via blogger app! It's pretty wonderful! I know I'm a little late to the party, but I did have it on my old phone bit didn't really use it.  I'm still getting the hang of the features, but it's pretty easy!

Anywho! How is your summer going so far??! Can you believe how fast June has gone by?! It's getting hotter around here, and currently I'm sick! #ick I hope to get better soon, because it sucks being sick when the weather is so perfect outside!  I hope you're enjoying the summer so far!

Just wanted to share a little birthday tag that I made recently!  It was a pirate theme, and such a cute parrrrrttyy!  I used the cricut for the entire tag.  Tags, bags, and boxes for the tag shape. Create a critter for the rest of the images.  I used raised double stick tape to make the images pop out a little more, and of course decorated the entire tag with my fave, white pen! Super simple, and fun!!

Spring Flings

It's been a little bit since my last post! I just wanted to share some things that I made recently for a couple of 1st birthdays! I'm enjoying the Summer so far, and trying to make the most of the sun!! What are your plans for the Summer?

Up up and away

It's been awhile since I have posted anything craft related.  Here we are in full Spring! April is here and soon it will be summer! This is a little birthday card that I made for a first birthday party.  For some reason, I have a thing for hotair balloons. I don't know what it is, but they fascinate me. This entire card was made with either punches or cricut cut outs. I love using shades of pink and purple! It's just the right amount of girly.  I hope to one day be able to go on a hotair balloon. It looks like so much fun!

Mickey Card Box

Bare with me, this is gonna be a long post!  I recently made a card box for a Mickey Mouse theme birthday party!  I had so many ideas running through my head.  I decided to make the box look like the invitation that my friend made.  

 

I thought I had it all figured it out in my head.  I wanted to make a round box and tissue paper it like old school style.  Where you wrap the tissue at the end of your pencil and glue it to look like it's "fluffy" looking.  I got everything ready for this "technique", and to sum it all up, it was a huge fail!  I had to do it a different way, but all in all I think that it came out pretty good!!

Here's a little recap/how to on how I made the box!

I found this cardboard round hat box at Ross!  This is exactly what I was looking for!  The things you find at Ross!  Sometimes there are some hidden gems there!

This first thing that I did, was take out the cord that's in the box.  Don't throw that away, you can use it for all different things.  I think that I might use it for handles on a gift bag or maybe add it to decorate a card.

After removing the cord, I have these holes, but it's okay because I am going to cover it and no one is really going to see this part.

I tried to peel off as much of the glossy paper on the box as possible, but it wasn't easy.  

Next I marked the area that I need to cut for the slot where the envelopes will go in.  As you can see, I don't measure.  I just drew it out and went for it. 

Now it's time to cut that sucker open!  I used an exacto blade, I think it would be faster to use a bigger blade, but I couldn't find mine and I wasn't cutting that large of an area.  I cut a slot for the envelope part, and 2 smaller slots on each side of the box for the ears.

Voila!

We have slots.

Next, I marked where I want the colors to go.  Since I wanted it to look like the invite, I drew a line to mark the division between the 2 colors.  

I mixed glue and water in a sour cream container that I saved.  It's good to save these little containers, especially the ones with covers.  You never know when you need to save something or use it for painting or in the case gluing.  Again I didn't measure anything out, I just added glue and thinned it out with water.  It's all trial and error.  It's not that serious, and you can always thicken it if necessary.

I had cut the tissue paper for plan A, but since we're going with plan B it's not necessary to cut the tissue.  For this project, tissue is very forgiving so ripping is actually better.

Now it's time to apply the tissue to the box.  I lightly coated the box with your glue solution, and start placing the tissue in the areas that I marked for each color.  To make sure that it's coated well, I applied another coat after I placed the tissue down.  As you can see, I used a brush for this part, I suggest you use a sponge brush if you have it.  I've been rearranging so a lot of things are misplaced.  I could only find a brush.  The difficult part about using a brush, is that the bristles tend to fall off and into you project.  I had to keep plucking bristles off of the box.  A little time consuming.

I was getting a little coat happy!  I had a lot of layers, just to work out all the kinks and try to get it as smooth as possible. 

After I finished applying all the tissue to the box, I let it sit for about 10 minutes.  In the meantime, I got a oval shaped punch and punched out 2 ovals, that I used for the buttons on Mickey's pants.  I used the technique as the tissue, applying it with the glue mixture. 

While I let the box dry some more, I moved on to making the ears.  I originally started with craft foam, but unfortunately I had to scrap that idea because I cut it too small and the foam that I had was a little too thick.  In a bind, I decided to go with balloon ears.  I cut out 2 balloons with my cricut for the ears.  I cut it out of a thin cardboard box that I had received some mail in.  

As with the rest of the box, I applied the same glue mixture and used the black tissue to make the ears.  The bottom of the balloon, is the part that I slid in the slots that I made for the ears.  I got a wooden chopstick and cut it in half and taped it to the back of the ears to give it a little more support so it can stand upright.

I know, this is a horrible picture...but this is the final product!  This type of box, can be made on any scale and with any type of box.  If you want to make it shiny, you can coat it with modge podge or even a clear coat type of varnish.

Gone Fishing

Whoa!! I haven't been here for a bit!!  I apologize for log absence!!  Just want to share a banner that I made for my besties sons 1st birthday party!!  You may remember my previous post on the invitations!!  

 The banner was also use for decorating the fishing game!!  FUN!!! 

 Here are some pics of the centerpieces that she gave away!!! Ivy bowls of fishes, and fruits and veggies plants(awesome ideas)!!  I got the strawberry, we'll see how that goes!!  Keep you posted!

 

It was a hot summer day, but so much fun!!  With  that being said...It's O-Fish-al! It's Summer!!

Just Keep Swimming!

There are many different meanings behind fish.  From good luck, long life, and even fertility to name a few. I have always loved fish!  All different kinds of fish!  They're interesting, beautiful, smart and also tasty!  Yes I said it, tasty!! I can eat raw ahi everyday!  This time last year, I helped with a baby shower for one of my besties!  It was a surprise shower, she was having a boy, and didn't really have a theme.  The shower was on May 5, which in Hawaii has been celebrated as "boy's day", recently it was changed to "children's day" I am not really sure why?  With all these things coming into play, I decided to go with fish-n- pinwheels for the theme.  Fast forward one year later, and we are planning his first birthday party!  Wouldn't you know, the theme is fish!  

 

 These are some of the fishes that I made for the invitations!  The colors are Lime Green, Orange and Blue!  Being that I needed to make a lot of invitations, I used all different shades for these colors, just as long as they were within the same family.  I made them all different too, there were barely any duplicates. 

 Being that it's a boys party, I didn't want to make it too frilly and add too much embellishments, so I kept it simple.  I corner rounded the edges to give it a little dimension.  The invitation has a decorative band that slides off, and the invitation opens from the middle.  I made the fish with the create a critter cricut cartridge, cut to 1 1/2".  This is the first time, I did this type of invitation.  I just kinda went with it, making adjustments along the way.  I got to use my scor-pal, so that was fun!!  This type of invitation can be made in various ways.  Use decorative scissors to change up the edges or if you're feeling ambitious you can even cut a shape out on each side.  I wish I had a picture of more of the invitations, so you could see that I made them in all different combos using the same colors.  I am a firm believer that not everything has to look the same, when it comes to these kinds of situations.  Especially if you want to use up what you have or a lot of the time if you're doing larger quantities all of the same colors aren't always available.  In this case that actually did happen to me.  I think it's because it's graduation season, a lot of stores didn't have blues. 

 With that being said,  It's O-FISH-al!  It's party time!  Stay tuned for a lot more to come with this ONE-derland party!

I'm sure a lot of you have heard that there's going to be a Where's Dory movie coming out, continuing from Finding Nemo, with Dory the fish played by Ellen Dengeneres(love her!).  I'm sure it's going to be a huge hit!!

85 Thanks

 

85 Thanks...well, not really! More like 20 something, cards  I've made that is.  Here's a little something that I've been working on.  I know I haven't been posting much lately, but these thank you cards have been taking up a chunk of my time lately.  Since I was sick, all my free time was being spent in recovery and sleeping.  This is a thank you card for the 85th Super Birthday party.  I know that it looks a little wacky, but that's sort of  what the party turned out to be! :)  Everything on this card was made with the cricut.  A little time consuming, but a lot of fun to play with!!

Field Goal!

The Super Birthday party continues!  This is another favor that I made for the party.  These are boxes of chocolates.  Continuing with the football theme, I wanted it to look like the football field.  

I wrapped the boxes with green paper to look like grass.

I cut strips of white paper to look like the yard lines on the field.  Since I couldn't do the entire field, I just went with the center and the 50 yard line.  I cut the #s out with the cricut cartridge Birthday Bash.  

I added little hash markings that I made with a hole punch.  This is where, your scraps really come handy.  I know it's not straight, but honestly this part is a lot of work.  I used a toothpick to help me glue the tiny pieces and tried to align them as straight as possible.

Lastly I tied some bakers twine around the box, and added a football(Wrap it up) and a jersey(Wrap it up).  These are just a little bit smaller than the ones that I made for the invitations.  This time I hand printed out MAHALO(Thank You) on the jersey.
